Candice Takes British Longboard Title 2011

Watergate Bay, nr Newquay, Cornwall hosted round three of the British Longboard Championships this weekend. The British Longboard Union hosts four rounds for the Championships and O’Donnell had already secured 1st spot in the ladies division in the first two rounds at Perranporth and Saunton Sands, meaning a good result at Watergate would secure the British Title.

The Watergate event was held under blue skies and contested in a 3 ft+ swell with light offshore winds. The event displayed a very high quality of surfing. Candice’s ambitions now are to do well at the Roxy Pro World Longboarding championships next week in Biarritz France, against the top
32 female longboarders.

Quiver Team at Nike Night Surf Fistral

Come down to Fistral on Friday/Saturday to check out the Nike night surf competition. All the Quiver team will be down there trying to get their hands on that prize purse!!

The Welsh Dragon

We have little Jo Morris from Bridgend in Wales riding for us and just couldn't resist putting up these pics of his latest Quiver.

The Welsh Open took place at Freshwater West over the weekend of 23-24th of April 11, It was the biggest group of groms under 12's that had ever taken place and Jo was the youngest by 2 - 3 years.

The competition started on the Saturday and Jo had to qualify through 3 rounds of heats to get into the final on the Sunday, he came first in two of the heats and second in the third. During the Saturday he also took part in the under 14's contest where he finished 5 overall. On the final of the under 12's Jo surfed very well and finished a credible second in his category behind a Quicksilver team rider who was 3 year older than Jo.

Jo started surfing at the age of 7. He attended a taster session at BC Surf school Bridgend, he loved it and has been surfing ever since. He attends sessions with his trainer Sam Moore every day through the summer and evening sessions through the winter. He also goes to California surfing every October with his family. His ambition is to be a professional surfer, to win as many competitions as he can and to travel the world surfing. Keep an eye out for this little dragon!!!

Strange Beautiful Life

Surfer Alan Stokes and film maker Tim Davies have collaborated on a new online film project titled Strange Beautiful Life. With episode one, Take me to the sun, due for release anytime now we thought we would catch up with the pair and see what makes them tick and what the project is all about.

Alan Stokes on the project:

“This project for me was something that I have wanted to pursue for some time. Being a surfer travelling around the world, seeing all these cool places and rad waves, this project is a way for me to share these experiences.

I’m also really interested in capturing moments on film, it makes you look at the world in a completely different light. I guess you’re trying to paint some kind of a picture for others to enjoy and I love the thought of that.

Strange Beautiful Life; these words have been banging around in my head for some time now, don't know why, I just like the way it provokes meaning. These have been the words I have lived by for the last year, so it seemed a fitting title to the project and the only way I could get them to stop banging!

Tim and I go way back, he's a classic Welshie, wears his heart on his sleeve and lives life to the full. I like to surf a lot, he does too but he also likes to make films. Strange Beautiful Life is an on-going project and we can’t wait to see where it takes us in the future.

I hope you enjoy watching, I hope it makes you feel like surfing.”

Film and editor Tim Davies

''I have been filming, travelling and surfing with Stokesy for years now and needless to say we have a blast! Then one day in Costa Rica it was like a lightning bolt striking us both, eyes glazed from Mojito's and sea salt we decided to do a series.

Stokesy's really focused on pushing his surfing and has been blowing me away lately with his ability to mix technical surfing with style and grace. I just love to entertain people through visual art and with all the ideas and destinations we have planned for the series its only going to get better and better.''
